This is a story about Palm Sunday. It is a very special day for many people.
Jesus is in a place near a big city. The city is Jerusalem. Many, many people are going to Jerusalem.
Jesus has friends. His friends are with him. Jesus wants to go to the city too.
Jesus sees a small donkey. The donkey is near its mother. Jesus says to his friends, “Please bring the donkey to me.”
His friends go and bring the small donkey. They put some of their clothes on the donkey’s back. Jesus sits on the donkey.
Jesus starts to ride the donkey. He goes towards the big city.
Many people are already in Jerusalem. They hear that Jesus is coming. They are very happy.
The people have green leaves. The leaves are long and big. They are from palm trees.
The people put the green leaves on the road. They put them in front of Jesus. It is like making a green carpet for him.
Some people take their coats off. They put their coats on the road too.
The people say, “Hello, Jesus! Welcome to our city!” They are very happy to see him.
They shout loudly, “Hosanna! Hosanna!” This means, “Help us, please!” and “Save us now!”
Jesus rides the donkey slowly. He goes into the big city. He is calm and quiet. The people are very excited and happy. They like Jesus very, very much.
Palm Sunday is a day to remember this happy time when Jesus came to Jerusalem and the people welcomed him with love.
